Head Math Coach Job Description
Grace Church School is seeking a Math Team Coach to collaboratively lead their middle school math team. The coach will be responsible for designing and implementing training programs that prepare students for a variety of math competitions, fostering a positive and encouraging team environment, and nurturing a deep love for mathematics. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mathematics, experience working with middle school students, and a passion for competitive math.
The Head Math Team Coach will perform the following duties:
- Partner and collaborate with second coach
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training program tailored to the needs of middle school students, focusing on advanced mathematical concepts and problem-solving strategies.
- Align math instruction with our middle school math curriculum.
- Organize and run regular practice sessions, providing individualized support and constructive feedback to help students improve.
- Prepare students for local, state, and national math competitions (e.g., AMC 8, Math League) by teaching strategies specific to each competition format.
- Assess individual student progress, identify areas for improvement, and provide targeted support.
- Cultivate a supportive and team-oriented culture that encourages collaboration, perseverance, and growth.
- Stay informed on current competition formats, trends in competitive mathematics, and new resources or techniques for team training.
- Coordinate logistics for team participation in competitions, including registration, transportation, and communication with parents and school administration.
- Foster a positive relationship with parents and update them on team progress, upcoming events, and achievements.
Desired Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, education, or a related field.
- Experience teaching or tutoring mathematics, preferably at the middle or high school level.
- Familiarity with competitive math exams and competitions.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate young students to reach their highest potential in mathematics.
- Ability to manage dynamic classroom environments and foster a welcoming environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree or beyond is preferred.
Compensation
This is a coaching role that pays $175/hour.
