About the position

Grace Church School is seeking a nurturing and collaborative individual to join our kindergarten teaching team as an interim head teacher for the 2026/2027 school year. Reporting to the Head of Early Childhood, Early Childhood Head Teachers collaborate with grade level colleagues, specialists and administrators to deliver instruction that is responsive to the needs of individual students and grounded in best practices. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

  • Cultivate a warm and inviting classroom community that promotes a positive and productive learning environment 
  • Training and experience with Responsive Classroom or similar program
  • Guide, train, mentor, and support Kindergarten Associate Teachers 
  • Develop, plan, and teach all disciplines related to the homeroom curriculum.
  • Experience with strategy-based literacy and math instruction preferred, including, but not limited to: Bridges in Mathematics and Amplify CKLA
  • Differentiate instruction to support group and individual learning, and provide extra support and enrichment as needed
  • Implement responsive, equitable, and positive classroom management strategies 
  • Collaborate with grade-level team members to enhance the curriculum
  • Commit to addressing social justice, diversity, equity, and anti-bias education in the curriculum and in the classroom environment.  Possess competence in antiracist pedagogy
  • Utilize technology where appropriate when teaching and planning lessons
  • Plan field trips to enhance the curriculum
  • Collaborate with special area teachers, as well as math and literacy specialists, to plan and  implement curriculum
  • Work with grade-level team members and the Head of Early Childhood on a weekly basis
  • Identify and respond to individual student’s academic and social-emotional needs in collaboration with the Head of Early Childhood, the JK - 4 Learning Specialist, EC Literacy Specialist and the JK-4 School Counselor
  • Monitor student progress to determine the effectiveness of interventions 
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records of student progress, parent communication, and lessons
  • Communicate effectively with parents on a regular basis through meetings, phone calls, emails and parent teacher conferences
  • Write narrative report cards two times a year that communicate the development of the whole child (language, math, and social-emotional development)
  • Perform assigned, ongoing scheduled responsibilities with care (lunch duty, dismissal, etc.)
  • Attend and participate actively in division and whole school faculty meetings 

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree or beyond is preferred.

Must have 2 years of teaching experience in Early Childhood.

Compensation

This is a full-time faculty position with an expected base salary of $ 69,000 - 159,690  commensurate with education and experience on the faculty salary scale.
